Brief gardens

This five-acre garden located 6km inland from Aluthgama is the host of many artistic landscape elements created by the elder of the two Bawa brothers, Bevis Bawa. The artful elements that can be found in the gardens mostly take the form of sculptures and murals surrounded by flora that adds to the beauty of the installations. The gardens have a series of terraces which create focused views of different angles and segments of the gardens in such a way that it is almost like a framed picture. The influence of the brief gardens was as such that Bevis Bawa’s younger brother Geoffrey Bawa often was inspired in his architectural work by it. A walk along the area brings to mind the look and feel of a mystical and hidden fairy garden in which you can discover small elements that bring surprise if you are keen enough to spot them.
